Chocolate and other fun finds in Amesbury

Amesbury is one of my favorite towns north of Boston. There’s a quaint downtown, with fun shopping and yummy restaurants. It leans more to the funky end and that’s just what I like.  One of my favorite things to do there is go to the free Friday chocolate tastings at m cacao.  Their chocolates are pictured above. I’m a total chocoholic and the fact that they let you eat as much as you want in the tastings is a chocoholic’s dream.  Their chocolate is complex, with flavors like basil lime and earl grey with lemon.  They also got new packaging that allows you to upload a video of your choosing which you can play when you open the box. As I may have mentioned before, I love astrology and this combo is totally Uranus in Taurus if you ask me.

For a more down home kind of experience, I highly recommend Cider Hill Farm. You can pick everything from apples to peaches to flowers and their pumpkin selection is the best. This time of year, hit the store and grab some fresh produce and fun food gift items like fresh maple syrup, jams, and salsas. In the fall we love the pitchFork food truck where they serve everything from street tacos to mac and cheese. Any time of year, a must are the cider donuts. Our family swears they are the best around.

We recently tried the COOP Rotisserie for dinner on a recent Friday night. We have always been early bird special kind of people, even in our 30’s, so we beat the crowd, but the place started to fill in quite nicely by the time we were leaving. The owner Elvis takes intense pride in his food and his restaurant, making a point to come out to chat with all his guests.  The menu includes Latin flavors like yucca fries and tacos as well as BBQ ribs and chicken.

For a quick bite and coffee, I recommend Market Square Bakehouse. Flatbread Company is the best for thin crispy pizza topped with only the freshest ingredients. I tend to go with the basic Jae’s Heart when it comes to pizza. There are many other adventurous choices though like the Harvest with butternut squash.

For shopping I love Alchemy + Art. Lots of fun little gifts like puzzles and sassy pouches, as well as all the essential materials for your favorite artist.  If you’re into crystals, candles, and a bit of the woo like I am check out Wild Dove and maybe get some reiki or intuitive reading while you’re there.

These local business owners put all their love, attention, and time into their businesses and it shows. This time of year can be so harried and frankly unfun, but wandering around in a town like Amesbury fills my cup and I hope it does yours as well.
